There’s an article in the Des Moines Register, titled “ACT calls for tougher high school curriculum,” reporting the latest info on ACT test score performance. The statistic that got my attention was “college preparedness.” According to the article, “Still, only 28 percent of Iowa high school students who took the college entrance exam met the benchmark scores that show they were prepared to pass all of their college classes. Nationwide, only 23 percent of students met the readiness threshold.”

The study also reports that average scores vary by race/ethnicity. They found the following averages: Asian students – 22.6; White students – 22.1; American Indian students – 18.9; Lationos – 18.7; and Blacks – 17.
