What makes a leader? What does it take to gain followers? How does a movement form? All good sociological questions.
This goofy viral video makes a nice jumping off point for a discussion about such issues (including types of authority, norms, following paths of least resistance, etc).

Haha! I love it! One thing we have been doing in my grad school classes to make it interesting – having a “word of the day.” It has to be something completely ridiculous. The goal is for everyone in the class to use the word at least once during class. Usually, we don’t tell the professor either. The first person to do it is quite daring and I see a similarity between that and this video! Hope you’re doing great, Jon!

Wow!!! This is a great video and great job explaining it all! I’m a Sociology major and what I saw was some the concepts I have been learning and it was exciting to see it actually take place! Great job!I loved it

Thanks Eric and Mike. I do think it’s a nice example of something that’s kind of goofy but still raises interesting and significant questions (including the problem of the first follower).
